Christmas break has arrived. The office is close from 22nd of December until 2nd of January, which means holidays has officially started. I was planning to spend all of my holiday in Edinburgh, however, I end up went on 28th of December. Because of that, I spent a few days of my holiday making some garments for myself from company’s left over fabric I got. I am quite proud of my decision. At first, I thought I could only make one garment.
Yet, I managed to make one skirt, one outer and one shirt and I am extremely happy for the result. Since I am doing placement in production I make clothes more and more rarely as I dealing more with fabric, pattern layout, pre-production sample, and logistics. Therefore, this is the first time I make my garments again from pattern cutting process until fully finished garment. I am completely missing this and had so much fun during the process.
As I will spend the rest of my holidays in Edinburgh, I brought my entire garment I made and wearing it on my trip to Edinburgh. I am super excited to have my holiday picture with me wearing the garment I made.
The concept I chose for my garments is femininity. My main inspiration is obviously my placement place, Preen by Thornton Bregazzi. Yet, slightly different with Preen by Thornton Bregazzi that also give gothic and masculinity accent on top of femininity to their collection. I am completely wanted to make my garments pure feminine. Obviously, since I will wear it, I want my garment to shown my personality, which is feminine. Nature especially flowers also becomes my other inspiration. That is why all of the garments I made have a lot of ruffles and pleated.
In conclusion, during this holiday I learn that I need to manage my time better, so even though I am working, I still can make clothes and experimented with it. I feel that it will practice me a lot to get ready for my final year where I need to make my own fashion collection. Additionally, it also will give me more idea of what kind of collection I want to make for my final year.
