I had so much fun being an intern at Preen, beside I can learn so many things I also gained a lot of new knowledge. Today I was asked to do Pre-Production Sample or we call it PPS for Spring/Summer collection 2019. Pre-Production sample or PPS is basically a type of development sample that made in garment factories prior to starting bulk production. All the thing that I need to do is finding the right fabric, trims, and accessories of each style from the collection and cut it as we need to make one garment, then send it to the manufacturer so that they can make the sample for bulk production. If production team are happy with the manufacturer sample, they will start making bulk production but if not the usually send it back again to the manufacturer to make them fixed. At first I found this quite difficult since I need to find the fabric that they used for the collection sometimes just by the name of fabric. At that time my knowledge about fabric was not that much, I don’t really know about the name, type or texture of fabric. I was a bit stress at that moment, however everyone at preen is really nice, If I cannot find the fabric or I ddon’t know what the fabricthey asked for, they will come and help. So by the time of doing this my knowledge of fabric is getting better and better not only that I know different type and the name of fabric but because I touched and feel a lot of their fabric which is a good quality fabric, I also gained knowledge of how quality fabric feel.
When I first doing PPS it took me hours to do one style as I need to figure it out the fabric. But the more I am doing it the quicker I am. After doing it for several times I can finish it in 15 to 30 minutes according to how many fabric its used in one style. In addition to that, during this process I also learn about what kind of fabric that will be good to use for certain style. For example cotton poplin would be really good if we making some shirt but will not as good as we make it as a gown.
Another thing I learn beside from the fabric and its used is also trimmings, before, I only thing that over locking the garment is the only way to make every seam of your garment neat, but now I learn that binding the seam is much better as it will make it neater and it also make it look more expensive
