As we can see, sample and production department is something inseparable. As production intern I am dealing with sample all the time. Before they move all the selling garments to the warehouse they used to do all orders in the office. Before they have warehouse, they usually quality checking, packing orders and sending orders to the stores from the office. And for quality checking, we usually check all the garments from main line to preen line by ourselves. I remembered one time I need to quality checked about 600 garments in a lot of different styles as they have quite a lot orders from that season.
Now, as they moved all garments to the warehouse, they have someone in the warehouse that will be in charge with the garments and orders. Some staff from production team will probably need to visit and check the warehouse every now and then to make sure everything is going all right. But we don’t need to packing orders anymore, though we probably still need to quality check some garment so it is still in the highest standard.
Since people in the warehouse are the one that will be dealing with the orders, now every finished garment from the manufacturer will be send straight away to the warehouse. Production team will now check the quality of the garments from the sample size sets that the manufacturer send to the office. It usually 5 to 6 garments for one style, which means one garment per size.
What me and the other intern check from the size set is not only just the quality of the garment but also the measurement. So both of us will measure the bust and the waist, if there is some problem with the measurement my manager will later send the garment back to the manufacturer and ask them to re-do the garment before they mass produce it. On the other hand, if my manager approved the size sets garments the manufacturer will continue to mass-produce the garment. from this task I learn to pay attention more to detail as any small mistakes sometime can be fatal. I feel that every task that I did at Preen is very useful for my final year which make me really grateful about that.
